Sierra/Plumas Counties and Truckee Real Estate
Sierra County is located in the heart of the northern section of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and remains today much as it was over 100 years ago, during the Gold Rush. Sierra Valley, on the east side of the County is comprised of 120,000 acres, the largest alpine valley in North America. It is part of the continental crust that was shifted by the same faulting that raised the Sierra Nevada.
The valley lies in two Counties – the Northeastern part of Sierra and the southeastern part of Plumas. Sierra Valley ranches were settled in the 1850’s. The ranches provided dairy products, hay and cattle for Truckee, the western Sierra County mines and the Comstock Mines. By the 1880’s it was one of the finest agricultural regions in California. Today, the valley is home to more cattle than people, German brown trout, Nevada Mule Deer, Grouse, Chucker, California Mountain Quail, Wood Ducks, Canadian Geese, Great Blue Heron and Sandhill Cranes. Below are area photos and a showcase of the properties for sale in each community.
